Biography
Federico Hurth, born in December 1998 in Lugano, Switzerland, emerges on the contemporary photography scene with a distinctive and deeply personal vision. His work positions the camera not simply as a tool, but as an instrument for observing and interpreting the human condition with sensitivity and clarity.
His journey into visual storytelling began with analog film. The tactile process, its inherent unpredictability and rawness, continues to shape his approach today, defining a language rooted in honesty rather than control.
Raised between the stillness of Lugano and the intensity of Milan, Federico developed an early connection to the contradictions of urban life. This duality became the foundation of his visual identity: a raw, unfiltered perspective where imperfection is not corrected, but embraced as an essential part of the narrative.
His practice first took form in the streets of Italy, where he documented overlooked realities with a restrained yet powerful visual approach. Through minimal compositions, his images reveal fragments of everyday life, bringing attention to stories that often remain unseen.
Driven by a constant curiosity, his work gradually expanded beyond national borders. From Los Angeles to Tokyo, from Seoul to the complex urban landscape of Scampia, Federico has explored environments shaped by tension, contrast, and transformation. In Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, his work reached a new level of depth, portraying life beyond stereotypes with empathy and precision.
Alongside documentary photography, Federico operates across fashion, music, and lifestyle contexts, maintaining a consistent focus on authenticity. Regardless of the setting, his work remains anchored in a respect for the human presence within each frame.
In an era defined by speed and digital immediacy, Federico Hurth continues to work with analog film, affirming a slower and more deliberate approach to image-making. Through his lens, the ordinary acquires weight, and silent narratives find a lasting visual form.
